A Background to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
GTA: Vice City was released by Rockstar Games in 2002. It is set in a fictional town called Vice City, an adaptation of the city of Miami.
You get to play the game in a third person perspective. Navigate through a great open world by foot, or in any of the thousand of vehicles you come across.
Upon its release, the game was met with high praise and critical acclaim. It became the best-selling game of 2002, with over 17.5 million copies being sold. It even won several Game of the Year awards.
What’s more is that GTA: Vice City was designed based on several real-life elements. The Mafioso drug lords of Miami, Cubans Haitians, and the crack epidemic of the 1980s have all been incorporated into the plot of the game.
Prepare yourself for a one of a kind experience.
Even though this game was met with a hugely positive audience, it was not without controversy. In fact, GTA: Vice City actually had to face several lawsuits after its release.
The controversy around the game serves as a warning for many users. There are themes, both suggestive and direct, that may not be suitable for all ages or mindsets.
Most of the opposition to the game argued that it promoted violence and sexual themes in young minds. GTA: Vice City was commonly included in titles that were proponents of the view that video games were the cause of growing violence amongst teenagers.
This led to certain updates in the game to include more warnings. However, none of the content was removed and players can immerse themselves in the full GTA experience even today.
Play this game to release the adrenaline that’s been kept inside you!
The Plot of GTA: Vice City
The game puts you in the shoes of Tommy Vercetti, a criminal by nature. He has been recently released from prison for a 15-year sentence for murder.
Your boss sends you to Vice City to see his drug operations in the area to fruition. However, you end being caught up in a drug deal gone wrong. Believing he was set up, Tommy sets on after those responsible.
Your mission in the game will be simple: take your rightful place as the undisputed kingpin of Vice City.
On your way you’ll be met with a variety of personalities and characters. Most of them will not be friendly. After all, you’re here to take power from the existing criminal underworld.
The friends you make along the journey are a set of criminals with diverse characteristics. Each gives you a different insight into the workings of a criminal network.
An Introduction to the Gameplay of GTA: Vice City
The game was one of the few of 2002 to have such a huge world for gamers to explore. The concept of an open world game was paired with that of freedom in gameplay. It’s as it sounds. You can do practically anything in the game.
What this means is that the official missions, while entertaining in their own right, are not the only way to have fun. You can drive around the city in practically any car you come across. The drivers may need a little “persuasion” to give up their vehicles. If you want, you can even drive a tank. The possibilities are immense!
The game gives you an inventory in which to carry your arms and ammunitions. Take to the streets armed with rifles and bazookas.
But be warned, while you can do anything, it doesn’t mean everybody is going to let you. The police in GTA will be after you based on your crime rating, denoted by stars.
The rating signifies how badly you are wanted by the cops. The higher your crime rating, the tougher the police are going to be on you. At the start you’ll probably just get a couple of squad cars looking to arrest you. If you get crazy enough, they’ll send helicopters and the brunt of the police force. It’ll be a shoot to kill situation.
There’s lots of fun to be had around Vice City. Several side missions exist to keep you entertained.
The more money you earn, the better lifestyle you’ll have.
